Dear Families Tomorrow we are having our Kindergarten celebration for both the morning and afternoon classes. It will begin with a sports day and then there will a celebration for parents to attend later in the morning At 8:15am the children will be put into groups and head outside to participate in a special spots day that has been organized just for them. Parents are invited to join us at 10:30am in the gym to watch our “Celebration of Kindergarten”. There is no need to come early, as it is only the Kindergarten children that will be participating so there will be plenty of room. We have been asked by parents about dressing in special clothing tomorrow. Instead, we are encouraging students to dress up on Wednesday June 28th. This will be their last day of school and they may want to get pictures with their friends. There will be no school for all Kindergarten students on Thursday June 29th. Their last day will be Wednesday June 28th. We will be having a small class party to celebrate our year together; please let you child’s teacher know if you would be able to bring in vegetables, fruit, cheese and/or crackers or a sweet treat J Basil plants are still available! If you would like one please let us know. We are continuing to put the proceeds towards ALS. Please send back any home reading or library books that you find at home. Enjoy your evening! The K team

Have a good evening The K team Day one at Fish Creek was fantastic! It is to be even warmer tomorrow so please remember to send lots of water along with bug spray and sun screen. We are also recommending a hat!
Today our activity was a scavenge hunt that used our five senses. We looked for different textures in nature. We saw lots of insects, birds (even a Blue Heron in the pm) and were lucky enough to see some deer. It will be a new adventure tomorrow! Have a good night The K team A note about our ALS walk on Thursday: - We will meet on the compound (not the gym) at 12:45 on Thursday. A member from the ALS Society will be coming to say a few words before we walk and then the students will all perform the `Fight Song' dance they have been learning in gym. You could play it in your class and get them to teach you too! Once the walk begins, the Calgary Police will have a few officers managing our crosswalk to get us safely across Fish Creek Blvd. -Please stress safety with your students. THIS IS NOT A RACE! It is a time to walk with friends and enjoy nature while we all support a worthwhile cause. We will send grades out (4's first to set a pace, then 3, 2 and 1) -Remind students to be respectful of property and stay on sidewalks and pathways. It might be a good idea to have a `no passing the teacher' rule for each class, so groups stay mostly together. - Ask your students to wear PURPLE, GREEN or WHITE shirts. (Purple is the ALS colour) - there is no formal gathering at the end of the walk, you can stay outside and play with your class or head bak to your classrooms -the walk is about 3 km and has a hill down into Fish Creek and a hill pathway back out. I can show you a modified version that is shorter and stays above the park. Please let us know if you or your students have concerns (Preggers!) It takes between 35 minutes (adult pace) to an estimated 45-60 minutes (kid pace). Please set a pace that works for you and your students. -see the attached map for the route - several parent volunteer will be on the route to keep us on track and show where to turn. If you have a specific concern about a student who could use extra volunteer help, please let Tamra know so she can assign one - The ALS Society will be bringing Stickers `I am here for _______' that students can take home if they know someone or you can fill them out in class with `Mrs. Y' in the blank. We will also be getting purple wristbands for all students to wear at the walk - ALS Society is bringing some copies of picture books about ALS today and here are a few websites that might be helpful: May-26-17 1:11 PM This is the website for ALS resources: http://www.alsab.ca/resources/ This site is like the wikipedia of ALS, in child friendly language: http://kidshealth.org/en/kids/als.html This is a children’s Q & A about ALS: https://mnd.asn.au/about_mnd/33-just-for-kids.html Thank you SO much to all the volunteers to helping us with our field trip downtown! We could not have done it without you - we are so grateful for the help and support!

There is no school for Kindergarten on Tuesday May 23rd. FINAL REMINDER REQUIRED: Yearbook Consent Forms! Last week you received an email from Evergreen School regarding a Third Party Consent form that we require all parents/guardians sign before a child’s image or work and be used in our Yearbook this year. As the Yearbook is created by our Evergreen Parent Council, they are a ‘third party’, and we must have this separate form signed before we can release any photos to them. If you did not return the form after the initial email, your child is bringing home a photocopy of the form tonight, or tomorrow. Please sign and return the form ASAP if you want your child’s image to be included in the Yearbook. YOUR CHILD’S IMAGE WILL NOT BE IN THE YEARBOOK IF YOU DO NOT RETURN THE FORM BY MAY 18, 2017. Explorer school is May Monday 29th – Thursday June 1st and we will be walking to Fish Creek each day. We will need 5 volunteers per classroom again for this trip. If you are able to help out please let your child’s teacher know. We are VERY short of afternoon helpers. If you have time that week and your police clearance you are welcome to come along and help us out! Email your child’s teacher ASAP if you can! Have a good evening The K team |
