Today in Kindergarten most of the classrooms did their third Me and a Tree! We began by looking at our October one and deciding what we could have done better! Then we worked on our sheet for today keeping in mind what we wanted to improve upon. When we were finished many of us set goals in what we will need to work harder on next time.

Today in Kindergarten we all did different art activities. If you ask me about what I did I will be able to tell you about it!
We also all went into the gym. First we stretched, then we ran and then we went to some centers, balls, hoops, scoops and skip its. Wow it was fun! The other day Mrs. Lana and Mrs. Nicole were in and talked to us about expected and unexpected behaviors. Did you know that it is unexpected if we walk through a group of friends to sit in a tiny spot on the carpet? It is expected that we find a spot at the outside of the group and sit quietly! We are all working very hard to use expected behaviors! Scholastic orders went home yesterday and are due back on Monday. I know this is fast but we want books to be back in time for Christmas incase you would like to order some as gifts. Today was a fun day in Kindergarten! The morning classes had gym-sic and worked on their new 'connecting' centres. This afternoon the classes did a variety of activities. Mrs. Decottignies' class learned about the letter 'Ii'. They talked about words that begin with i and then printed and drew pictures in their journals. Mrs. Smith's class did 'Me and a Tree' where the students draw themselves, a tree and as many letters, numbers and words that they know. They are working on using the letters they have learned in class to spell words. Mrs. Yacyshyn's class talked about community and what makes up a community. Then the students constructed the community of Evergreen with foam blocks, duplo lego and small lego. Scholastic orders went home today. They are due back December 1st! Have a great evening! The K Team Today in Kindergarten we worked on the letter Dd. Each time we do a new letter we have been watching a video that tells about the letter, you can watch them at home too if you like. Type in "Have fun teaching" and click on the picture with a black background and bright colored letters.

Each classroom has a problem that we need to solve.
In Mrs. Decottignies room we have to figure out how to get a car across a river. Each centre has a basket that has tape, wood cookies and scissors then there are the differences. Pencils, rulers and popsicle sticks, how do you cross a river with those ? !!! We are doing a great job figuring how to connect the two sides. In Mrs Osadec and Mrs. Yacyshyn's room has a family stuck on a mountain and they want to get down. There is some tape, string, wood cookies, egg cartons and paper clips at this centre. In the other centre we need to move water from one bucket to another using straws and pipes. In Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Bridle's room we are figuring out how people connect and making a collage to show some different ways. Besides the questions we also have a bunch of different centres out to learn at. It was fun to see some different activities! The afternoon class had gym- sic for the first time in ages! It was fun to get back to our schedule! She is very happy to be back :)
Today, both Mrs. Smith's and Mrs. Bridle's classes talked about the 4 seasons and did an art project. Ask your child what they learned about the seasons. Mrs. Osadec, Mrs. Decottignies and Mrs. Yacyshyn's classes all talked more about connections. We discovered that there are more than just physical connections, but social and symbiotic ones as well! Ask your child what connection they wrote about in their journal. Thank you for continuing to practice putting on the winter clothing at home! The students are beginning to get more independent at zipping up zippers and putting on boots and mittens! Have a great evening! The K Team Today in Kindergarten we talked about the letter l. We came up with a bunch of words that start with L. Some of them were:
lion lollipop lick love lump log lunch letter links lift leaf light bulb lake leader ladybug The morning group had music with Mrs. H-D and Mrs. Roworth and they practiced their songs for the winter show. The afternoon will be performing their show on December 16th at 1:30 and 6:30. The morning will performing their show on December 17th at 10:00 and 6:30. It will be possible to switch evenings if you child is unable to attend their evening or if you have another child performing on the opposite evening. Please let us know if you plan to switch. REMINDER No school tomorrow. Have a great weekend The Kinder Team We had a great presentation by our Speech and Language Pathologist and our Occupational Therapist today about 'Expected' and 'Unexpected' behaviors. The children got to see scenarios acted out of both behaviors we expect to see and those we don't. Running in the classroom, pushing each other, interrupting when someone else is talking were some examples of unexpected behaviors. Waiting patiently with your hand raised, giving a classmate a word of encouragement and sharing at centre time were some examples of expected behavior. Ask your child to give you some examples of expected and unexpected behavior.
Afternoon classes: Boys black boot mix-up! A pair of black boots with silver trim are still here (size 10) and we are missing a pair of size 12! Please check that your child has the correct boots today and that we can correct the mix-up tomorrow. We have someone in Mrs. Yacyshyn's class without their boots. Thank you! Please make sure to label all of your child's belongings as we have mittens and hats that are lying around not being claimed. Thank you for continuing to send in the EYE forms. Please do not fill in the appointment time on your own, if an appointment time is needed your child's teacher will contact you. We are still accepting popcorn orders! Stay warm :) The K Team Today we talked about what "connections" are. Some of the answers we had were amazing and I am sure would surprise you too. Over the next month or so we will be using this words a lot and are looking forward to seeing just what Kindergarten students will teach us about what a connection is.
Thank you to those that sent back the school's copy of the EYE report. We will be getting in touch with you shortly if your child had results that were red or two or more yellow results to talk to you about the results and will have some explanations and information about each of the domains. If you have not sent back your extra copy please send it as soon as possible. Popcorn forms are due Thursday at the latest if you would like to order. No school on Friday November 20th. Have a good evening The Kindergarten Team Please make sure to check your child's backpack today. The Early Years Evaluation that was done on your child is there along with a note with some additional information.
Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask your child's teacher. This Friday, November 20 is a Professional Development Day...there will be no school for students. Please continue practicing getting in and out of winter clothing...we still have quite a few children that aren't able to zip up their coats or put on mittens. Thank you! Have a great evening :) The K Team |
