This morning in Kindergarten we did many things. Some of the classes did some measuring. We used non-standard unit to find things that were the same size for example the puppet theatre is 28 paperclips long and the sink is 20 Duplo blocks high.
In the afternoon we started listening to some Fairy Tales. All three classes are starting with different stories but we will all be doing each of the stories. Some of also leaped for leap day. We put our toes on a line and then jumped, just like a frog! Popcorn notes went home last week. Please send them back as soon as possible. If you have misplaced your let us know and we can send out another one. The March calendar went home today on purple paper. Have a great evening The Kindergarten team

Tomorrow is AM Kindergarten!
Today the morning classes had gymsic. We also continued measuring with non-standard units. We were all over the school seeing how long or tall different things were. Ask me what I measured and what I used to measure? The afternoon classes read a book called 'Grandfather Tang's Story'. We learned that tangrams are a type of puzzle from China and that there are seven shapes or tans in each set. They can be assembled to make pictures to go along with a story. We each got our own set of 7 tans and made our own picture. Ask me what I made? Have a great evening :) The K Team Today in the big Kindergarten room we talked about the letter K. We made many different things that start with K in our sketch books. Some of the ideas we cam up with are:
Kindergarten kids kite koala key kangaroo king kiss kitchen keyboard keep kit kat and many names Kennedy, Kingston, Kyla, Kian, Kenzie, Kaitlin, Kelley During centre time we had some shaving cream out to use to draw on the table with. It is a great fine motor activity. Mrs. Bridle's class talked about the number 5 and the many different ways we can show five. Did you know we can show it using pictures, numbers and dots? Ask me to show you the number 5. We also had a long discussion about books and the importance of books to children. The students in Mrs. Bridle's class think that it is important for all kids in the world to have books in their homes so that they can have a bedtime story every night. Mrs.Smith's class talked about what makes them special and made some pink t-shirts to share their ideas. The school received a note from the Evergreen Community Association about the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt: Saturday, March 26th, from 10am till Noon, at the Everwillow Circle Park, 256 Everstone Dr. We will be having the Easter Bunny at the Easter Egg Hunt as well as the Calgary Public Library Book Truck. We will be having hot chocolate and coffee at the event as well. The chocolate is being sponsored by Evergreen Shoppers Drug Mart and Bridlewood Sobeys. The coffee by Evergreen Starbucks. If you could pass along this information also to your School Council, as we are hoping that they might be able to help us with the event as volunteers. They can email [email protected] and specify they are from the school council. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Thanks Paul Have a good evening. The afternoon classes had gymsic today and then each class did something a bit different. Mrs. Decottignies' class had another favourite story to illustrate and write about. Mrs. Yacyshyn's class had to listen carefully for the sounds they heard in letters and words and then write them down. Mrs. Smith's class worked on the community garden. The K Team :) Today in Kindergarten some of the classes did their February Me and a Tree. This is such a great activity as you have had the chance to see. All the growth that they have made over the year and the extra detail they now put into their work.
We are finishing up our favorite stories this week as well. You may have to take a trip to the library to see if you can find some of these books to read at home with your child. It was great to read such a wide variety of books. The morning group had gym sic today and wrote about their friends favorite school. In the afternoon we talked about the letter Vv. In our sketch books we made things that start with a V like violin, Valentine, volcano and villian. We also listened to a new story and drew pictures about our favorite part. This afternoon Mrs. Smith's class did some work in their math journal before writing in their garden books about the changes they have seen in the garden. Have a good evening The Kindergarten Team Today we did a number of different activities. In the morning, we asked the question "How many kindergarten kids big is the classroom?" and the students figured out that we could lie down and measure that way. We measured the width of the classroom. Both morning and afternoon classes continued working on the favourite story of the day as well as learning about the letter Ff. We listened to our cool alphabet rap and learned a lot about the letter F. We made fancy fish, complete with fins, and a face :)
Have a fantastic evening! The K Team We hoped you enjoyed your extra long weekend! Today was a busy day in Kindergarten! Some of the morning groups talked about the letter Ff and made a list of all the things we could think of the at started with F. In our sketch books we made a fish of our own. we were allowed to get very creative!. Our ocean of fish would be a neat one to scuba dive in!
Some of the grade four written First Nation legends and made them into shadow puppet shows. Both the morning and afternoon classes were invited to come and watch them. They were very good and we were even able to describe the lesson behind the story. In the afternoon we had gym-sic after we read another favorite story. The books we will be making are getting really long! Enjoy your evening The Kindergarten Team. This morning in Kindergarten we talked about the letter Vv; the sound it makes and what words start with Vv. We learned that valentine starts with a v!
The afternoon classes had gymsic where they got to participate in the Evergreen Ninja obstacle course. Ask your child what their favourite part was. We also did some valentine crafts! We will be celebrating Valentine's Day tomorrow! If you are sending cards please just have your child sign their name and not worry about filling in the "to" part. It makes it much easier to hand out when we are not trying to read so many different names and match them. If you have any other questions please contact your child's teacher. Here are the number of students in each class: Mrs Decottignies am 23 Mrs Decottignies pm 23 Mrs. Bridle 22 Mrs. Smith 21 Mrs Osadec 23 Mrs. Yacyshyn 22 Reminders: No school February 11 and 12 for Teachers Convention Monday February 15th for Family Day Thank you! Have a great evening :) The K Team Today in Kindergarten we continued working on our favorite stories. Have we told you about any of them yet? It is a hard job to draw a picture with details about our favorite part of the story. We need to use at least five colors when we are coloring it too! Then we write a sentence to describe our picture. That is REALLY hard! We are trying to write down the sounds we hear in the words we want to write. Sometimes we hear the beginning sound and maybe the end sound but the middle sounds are tough but we are trying.
We will be celebrating Valentines on Wednesday this week. If you are sending cards please just have your child sign their name and not worry about filling in the "to" part.
