Surprise! A Friday blog.
Today each of the classes did a different art project that I am sure your child would like to share with you. We talked about 30 seconds today and gave each the students a challenge. What can they do in 30 seconds this weekend? Some of their suggestions were make their bed, put their clothes away, get ready for bed or help get a job done. We told them that if they manage to find something that they could could type it up on the blog and we would give them a sticker on Monday. Have fun with it an let us know what you did! Enjoy your weekend The Kinder teachers

AM Kinders tomorrow!
Today in Kindergarten the morning group had gym-sic. We could hear them singing “She’ll be coming round the mountain” in the music room and it sure sounded like fun!. They headed into the gym to play some games before returning to hear a story from Mrs. Schuman. In the afternoon we did our April version of Me and a Tree. We are getting so good at it that next time we are going to make some changes. Mrs. Smith made her changes this time and WOW! They are amazing. Reminder that Tuesday is spring photo day. Class pictures as well as individual photos will be taken at that time. Have a good evening! Team K Today some of the classes talked about ways to help the Earth stay clean. We discussed reuse, reduce and recycle and then the students wrote about how they can help the Earth. Other classes discussed and wrote about different social stories. Ask your child what activity they did today.
We continue to talk about time and today we had 27 seconds. We attempted to print the alphabet in that time! We had someone in the morning who was able to do it and one person in the afternoon who was very close! Wow!! We also did some gross motor movements, some for 27 seconds and some that we had to do 27 repetitions. A notice was sent home, but just a reminder that May 3 will be individual as well as class photo day. Have a great evening :) The K Team Thank you so much for taking the time on Thursday or Friday to come into the school with your child. They loved sharing the things they do in Kindergarten and all of their work with you.
Today the morning group did their April version of Me and a Tree. Some of the groups taked about the goals they set for the next time and looked to see if they achieved them with the work they did today. In the afternoon the classes had gym-sic before heading to centres. We continue to talk about time and today we had 26 seconds. Did you know that you can sing Twinkle Twinkle in that time! We also did some big jumps and even more little jumps before seeing how fast our class could find a chair and sit down quietly. Mrs. Smith's class were speed demons and so quiet, they won in the afternoon. The morning group did it last week, ask your child which class was the best. Have a good evening The Kinder team Sorry there was no blog yesterday but there was working going on to update the wireless networks so we did not have internet access.
Today at school we talked about Earth day and the letter Ee. The letter E makes more sounds than usual so it is a hard letter to learn. We did a neat experiment to make our own Earth. Ask us about it! Tomorrow is day one of student led conferences and they run from 4-8 on Thursday and 8-1 on Friday. Don't forget to bring your child with you as they will be your guide for your appointment. It would be great if it were possible for you to leave younger siblings at home so that you can focus on what your child is sharing with you. We do understand if this is not possible. If you have not booked an appointment you can give it a try this evening. If you are unable to get in and want an appointment please sent your child teacher an email. REMINDERS: No school on Friday April 22 student led conferences. No school on Monday April 25 Professional Development Day. On Wednesday May 18th all of the kindergarten classes will be going on a full day field trip downtown. All students will arrive at the school for 8:00 attendance and the busses will leave at 9:00 for our day. Since the field trip is a full day there will be NO classes for kindergarten the following day, Thursday May 19th. Have a great evening. The K team What a beautiful day!! Today each of the classes did different things. Some wrote sentences using various sentence starters such as: I like.....I see.....I am.....
Some classes wrote journal entries and others played math games. Ask your child what he or she did today. All of the Kindergarten teachers met this afternoon to do some team planning. Each of the PM kindergarten classes had guest teachers...if your child's home reading books were not switched, we will make sure and get them switched tomorrow. If you have any magazines you are finished with we would love to use them. We are going to be making Earth day collages and are particularly interested in tearing up the blue and green pages;) We can also use them for cutting out letters, words and numbers at different centres. Thank you! Some things to write down on your calendars! Student led conferences will be on April 21st and 22nd. The on-line registration is now open. On Wednesday May 18th all of the kindergarten classes will be going on a full day field trip downtown. Today the morning classes had gymsic and then the students tried out a number of new centres. We made towers using a bunch of different 3D shapes, we listened to books and fairytales at our listening centre and we explored land, water and air using various paper and other materials. This afternoon, Mrs. Smith's class created Spring watercolor paintings using watercolor pencil crayons. Mrs. Decottignies and Mrs. Yacyshyn's classes each wrote a journal entry about something that is important or interesting to them. Mrs. Yacyshyn's students each chose a specific goal to work on, either in their writing or drawing. We also got to visit the brand new centers! Ask us what our favorite one was. Mrs. Yacyshyn's Scholastic book orders are due back on Monday, April 11. Some things to write down on your calendars! Two classes did a sequencing activity and another talked about beginning, middle and the end of the story. It is amazing how well they are remembering them. During centre time one of their choices is to make puppet shows and act out the story. They do a fantastic job of it. In the afternoon we had gym-sic. Mrs. Decottignies class is practicing logging onto the computer. Mrs. Yacyshyn's class did some table top math centres and in Mrs. Smith's class talked about the letter Xx. The morning classes each started a new fairy tale and did an activity to go along with it. Ask your child which fairy tale they are learning about. In the afternoon, Mrs. Decottignies' and Mrs. Yacyshyns' classes learned about the letter Oo. We learned that an Oo is a vowel and that it makes two different sounds. We thought of a lot of words that begin with Oo; ask your child to tell you some of the words they came up with. Mrs. Smith's class did 'Me and a Tree'. They worked hard to draw a detailed picture of themselves, a tree and to write down as many letters, numbers and words as they could. Some things to write down on your calendars! Mrs. Bridle's class had some new LEGO to play with. Some of the children were concerned that it was "girl" lego because it was in a pink container. Mrs. Bridle assured the class that everyone could play with it and it didn't matter what colour the container or the LEGO was. The LEGO centre was our busiest centre today! We also wrote a goodbye letter to Mr. Craig. We are very sad he is leaving us. We thanked him for teaching us about trapezoids! Tomorrow is his last day at Evergreen. Mrs. Bridle sent home book orders today. They are due on Monday, April 8. Today the afternoon classes did their 7th edition of Me and a Tree. We talked about filling in space, making sure that we were not floating in space and had a ground to stand on. When writing our letters it is helpful to sing the ABC song so that we do not forget letters. IF we say the number as we count it can also help. Some of us are writing words but remembering the ones we know is hard so we try to write sentences. This is such a big job but WOW the changes are fantastic. They all visit our classes weekly but this time they did something with the entire class. One class talked about rhyming words in stories, another counted the drum beats in their names and the third class did a different activity. In the afternoon Mrs. Niciole, Mr. V. and Mrs. Lana visited again and taught some new centres that use gross motor activities. Mrs. Yacyshyn and Mrs. Decottignies talked about the letter G. We put pictures of a boy planting some seeds and growing a garden in order. Mrs. Smith's class did a journal entry about spring break. Today in Kindergarten the morning group had gym-sic. Mrs. Schuman came in and read a story about sharing our cultures with others. The class in the story brought food from their country in to share with the class. They talked about sometimes the food may sound weird or different but it may be delicious! In the afternoon we wrote and entry in our journals that you can read next week when you come into to student led conferences. For our calendar today the morning group tried to write our name in 14 seconds. The people with short names were able to do it but those with long names couldn’t. Then we tried to write numbers from 1-10, no luck. One to five? Some of us did it but all of us could write the numbers 1-3 in 14 seconds. In the afternoon (we did the other job yesterday) we tried to stand on one foot for 14 seconds, then the other. We tried to stand still for 14 seconds and checked to see how many times we could clap our hands. Did you know that if we do big claps we don’t clap as much as if we do little claps. If you have any magazines you are finished with we would love to use them.
