Today in Kindergarten we did some Halloween crafts. Some made a monster and some made skeletons. If they didn't come today, you will see them in their bags tomorrow.
Tomorrow is our last day of in-line skating. It is hard to believe it has gone so fast. The children picked it up so quickly and have become quite good. If your child has their last skating session tomorrow please have them bring their helmet. They should have had two lessons in total. If their Halloween costume is hard to skate in please put it in their bag and they can get dressed after skating. No weapons or accessories please. We have had some parents ask about treats for Halloween. If you would like to send something in for your class you can (nut free), however treats have not been requested. No school Friday Receipt for the dance went home today. This is your ticket. Have a wonderful evening, KInders Today was our second day of in-line skating and it has been so much fun! Today in Kindergarten the morning group had gym-sic. Each day some of the students are allowed to head to the learning commons to explore the centres that are available or to sign out books. This afternoon we talked about the letter Bb. We were taught a rhyming song and listened to another song about B. I might be able to sing some of it and show you the actions Then we made a list of all the things we could think of that started with B and it was a big list! Our challenge was to think of different words and draw them in our sketch books. Alien in line skating begins on Monday. The green permission slips went home today please be sure to send them back by Monday so that your child will be able to skate with us. The Kindergarten classes will skate two days for an hour each time. we will be skating Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday. Mrs. Decottignies classes will be split in half so that part will skate M and W and the other half will skate T and Thurs. We realize that those skating on Thursday may have some difficulties with Halloween costumes but we will do our best to help them out. If you are available to help us get skates on to start the lessons and have your police clearance please let us know. Just a reminder that with Halloween approaching the students will be allowed to wear costumes to school. Please leave all costume accessories at home so that nothing will be forgotten at the school. We are asking that costumes are not scary. Yesterday we talked about seeds and the different kinds of seeds that we find in our food. Your child may ask to bring some in. We will be looking at seeds and how different each one is. Our plan is to plant some sone that we can see how fast some grow and how slowly others do. Reminder there is no school on Friday the 29th Haloween Howl Thursday the 28th Have a good evening Kindergaten Team Three messages from the office: ATTENTION: Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Casino! We are less than two weeks away and short 10 volunteers. Did you know that Evergreen School Parent Advisory Council has raised over $140,000 since the school opened? We expect to raise over $60,000 by volunteering for our upcoming casino on November 1 and 2, but need your help to fill volunteer roles!! Our casino funds have paid for our school playground and naturalization area, artists-in-residence to teach their talents at the school, books for the learning commons, computers, iPads, cameras and other electronics used by students in the classroom, and a new set of handbells for our music program. We are lucky enough to volunteer at a casino every 21 months or so, and may lose this valuable fundraiser if we are unable to staff the upcoming event. - No experience required!! - It's FUN!! - It's easy!! - Meals, snacks, refreshments provided. - Do not need a criminal records check through the school. - Can ask friends, neighbours, the grandparents. - Get a babysitter and make it a date-night! - The shifts may be awkward hours, but remember this is only once in a two year period and provides a huge benefit to the children attending the school. If you would like to sign up for a shift at our casino please visit www.volunteersignup.org/QJ4MD or email [email protected] 2015/2016 School Survey As we continue to plan for school improvement and programs for our learners, we are looking for your input. We have created a short five minute survey on quality of education, parent involvement, digital citizenship, and residency programs here at Evergreen. Links to the survey can be found here. We thank you for your time and input. Your feedback is important to us in our planning process. Michael Craig Assistant Principal, Evergreen School http://schools.cbe.ab.ca/b401 Dear Parents and Guardians, All students at Evergreen school have access to a variety of digital tools in their daily learning. From desktop and laptop computers to iPads and iPods, our students use technology to enhance and support their learning in many ways. A wireless student network for Internet access using student owned personal electronic devices (such as iPods, iPads, tablets, or laptop computers) is provided at Evergreen School. The use of personal devices by students, with the guidance of parents and teachers will assist in addressing individual student preferences and needs for learning. Access to the LAWN (Learner Accessible Wireless Network) is available to students on a voluntary basis. The LAWN emphasizes student learning and places responsibility on students for appropriate use and behavior. All parents/guardians are encouraged to discuss the learning opportunities and the risks with their son or daughter. A copy of a parent student contract will be available through message easy and on our school website. Students who wish to bring digital devices to school to use in their learning will be required to sign the contract with their parents' permission and return it to school beforehand. Be assured that the content filtering that is normally used to filter inappropriate material and content on the school’s internal network will also be applied to the open access network. As with any personal belonging that a student brings to school, the school cannot be responsible for electronic devices that are lost, stolen or damaged. This is a significant opportunity for students to personalize their learning by choosing with their parent’s appropriate technology for their learning needs. Thank you for your attention to this important information. For more information, visit the CBE website at http://www.cbe.ab.ca/programs/technology-for-learning/Pages/Digital-Citizenship.aspx The DIgital Citizenship team Today in Kindergarten we started our garden. Each classroom planted a different type of seed. Some of them were tomatoes, peppers, squash, basil and chives. We will be planting other seeds as they year goes along.
Please watch for the Alien inline permission forms to come homeschool wide tomorrow. These forms are late going home and will need to be back Monday so that your child is able to skate next week. We are still looking for volunteers to help us at the beginning of both the morning and afternoon classes. We do have had some volunteers but the more people we can get the fewer skates each person will need to help with and the more time the children will have to skate. If you are able to help us out and have police clearance please let your child's teacher know. Just a reminder that with Halloween approaching the students will be allowed to wear costumes to school. DId you know that you can add chain into the middle to make a chain longer not just to the beginning or end! It was so exciting to see ow far we could go. This morning all of the teachers had some meeting time before returning to the class so that we can have time together to plan some exciting activities for Kindergarten. The classes today read a book called "Sort it Out". It is about a little mouse that has a collection of things and puts them into groups. Our job was to sort out the paper pieces that were on our table into groups. We could make up our own rule but then we needed to tell an adult about how we did it. Mrs. Bridle's Scholastic orders are due tomorrow. We will be starting inline skating in gym next week and are asking for some help to get skates on at the beginning of each day. If you are able to stay for a little bit after dropping off your child for both the morning and afternoon classes and have your police clearance your help would be greatly appreciated. Please let your child's teacher know. Photo orders were due today. If you have not sent in your forms and would like to please send them tomorrow. You will be able to continue to order online for sometime yet. We will be going on our walk to Marshall Springs tomorrow morning. We are planning on leaving the school at 8:30am. Please make sure students have walking shoes and whatever you feel your child will need to keep warm as it is still quite chilly early in the morning. We are still in need of one volunteer if you are able to come along. Thank you! Today the morning classes had gym-sic and the afternoon classes worked in their "Little Green Thumbs" booklet. Little Green Thumbs is a program that all the kindergarten classes will be participating in. We will be growing a community garden together and today we learned what we need in order to make a plant grow. We came up with seeds, light, soil/dirt and water :) The students recorded all of this information in their booklets and drew some fabulous pictures as well. Have a lovely evening! We will see the afternoon classes tomorrow morning at 8am. The K Team Today the morning and afternoon classes both heard the beginning of a story and then had to predict what they thought would happen next. The students drew their predictions on paper and then told them to their teachers.
Reminder: This Friday is the PM Kindergarten's walk to Marshall Springs! We are still in need of volunteers if you have police clearance. Thank you! Some of you have been asking about Halloween. Students are able to come to school in costumes on Thursday, October 29th and we will have some Halloween themed activities. If you have a pumpkin you would like to bring in for us to sort, weigh, measure and cut open you could start sending those in next week...thanks :) Tomorrow is the last day to submit Scholastic orders for Mrs. Decottignies, Mrs. Osadec and Mrs. Yacyshyns' classes. Enjoy the beautiful Fall evening! The Kinder Team |
