Costume is dressy, party look! Canstruction Our grade four design team is just about ready to begin their Canstruction® project on Tuesday afternoon for the Calgary Food Bank. This year’s theme is nature. The grade 4 design team has decided to extend their learning about the regions of Alberta and build a model of the Rocky Mountains. They have already received a number of colour specific donations for their creation. At this time they are still looking for donations of cans or boxes, specifically withbrown/black/grey, green and blue coloured labels. All food donations are gratefully accepted and can be dropped off at the school office anytime up until Tuesday at noon. Thank you for your support of this project which in turn will go to support needy Calgarians. Did you know that numbers are everywhere? We have been talking about where we find numbers in our world. The children have come up with some amazing answers. One student said that numbers are found on the back of cars. Upon further questioning, he even came up with the correct term...on license plates! Another student said that numbers are on the front of our houses. We have been so impressed with the deep thinking the children have done on this. We need your help though! Could you please look for places that we find numbers in our world. We want the children to THINK BIG on this...not just at home or at school, but where else do they find numbers? Please take a picutre of where you find numbers and send it to your child's teacher. We are going to print them out and put up a display at school. Thanks for your help with this project! Have a good night! Team K This week our schedule will change quite a bit as we have rehearsals for our Winter show each day. It is really coming together and it will be a great show for you to see!

Report cards went home for the PM classes today as they won't be at school tomorrow. AM classes will receive their report cards tomorrow. Today in the morning classes, we went to Gym-sic and spent some time doing fun centres! We built a lot of great things with our foam blocks and strung beads on pipe cleaners to put on our twig trees :) In the afternoon we spent a lot of time on our calendar...discussing the number 10 and identifying things that come in 10's or have 10 of something. We learned that crabs have 10 legs and squids have 10 limbs. We go 10-pin bowling and a 10 sided shape is called a decagon. We have 10 fingers and 10 toes :) We talked about the letter 'Jj' and discussed many words that begin with j. Ask your child to tell you some of the j words we came up with. We practiced printing upper and lower case Jj's in our journals as well. Have a lovely evening :) The K Team Today is a HUGE blog with some things being repeated at the end!

A group of grade 4 students has taken on the challenge to think like engineers, designers, architects and builders to create an extraordinary structure all out of cans of food which, after judging, will be then de-canstructed, with all food going to the Calgary Food Bank. Today the morning classes learned about the letter 'Jj'. They read the story 'Jingle Bells', brainstormed words that begin with the letter Jj and then practiced printing Jj's in their journals.
The afternoon classes had Gym-sic today and they practiced their songs for the Winter Concert. Both classes talked about the number 8 as it is December 8th...we learned that a stop sign has eight sides, a lot of markers come in packs of 8 and only a few of our classmates have 8 letters in their names. Some of us made number monsters! We needed to have one of something on our monster, two of something different, three of something and four and five of something else! They were very creative! Other classes talked about how we see numbers everywhere and they began to talk about our big project. Here is some information for you in some cases before your child will even hear about it! Have a good evening! The Kindergarten team It was a fun day in Kindergarten! The morning classes each chose a building or service (Mrs. Osadec's class chose a school, Mrs. Decottignies' class chose a grocery store and Mrs. Bridle's class chose a hospital) and then each of the students made a representation of something to go into that store or service. Ask your child what they created!
The afternoon classes had gym-sic today as well as their second fire drill!! Last call for Scholastic book orders- they are due in tomorrow! NO school this Friday, December 4. Tomorrow will be a very exciting day! The Leighton Art Centre is coming to each of the classes to do a special art project. The students will not want to miss it :) It is that time of year again to start going through your child's toys and books. The grade 2s will be hosting a TOY AND BOOK SALE to support Stephen's Backpack Society on December 3, 2015 for the entire day. Please send in any gently used toys and/or books starting on December 1. The items may be brought to any grade 2 classroom or dropped off at the office. We will also take cash donations. All of the money raised this year will be used to purchase backpacks filled with items liked books, toothbrushes, and toys for children that live on the streets in Calgary. For more information about this program please go to the Stephen's Backpack Society at http://www.stephensbackpacks.com. Here is a note from Mrs. Henderson-McDade: Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 WINTER MUSICAL “Hosts, Jack and Jackie Frost have just finished renovating Winter’s Wonderland, a North Country resort. Their staff is busily getting everything ready for the grand reopening. Guests start to arrive, but sadly there’s just NO SNOW!” What will they do for their winter holiday if Old Man Winter doesn’t show up to bring the snow? *Costume: Students may dress as they wish. Their characters are arriving at a hotel for a grand opening party. PERFORMANCES To accommodate all of our audience guests this year, we will be splitting the classes and performing on 2 separate show days. Your child/children will only be responsible for 1 night and 1 day performance. The show days/times and classes performing are found in the below chart. **If you have 2 children on 2 different show days, please email Mrs. Henderson-McDade as soon as possible and I will arrange for both children to be on the same night. ([email protected]). As a general rule, I will ask your youngest child to perform on the day / night noted for their older sibling. Please still email me the conflict, as I do want to make sure I am not losing a large portion of young kindergarten students on the same performance day. Performance Dates and Times: Wednesday December 16th 1:30 pm AND 6:30 pm Thursday December 17th 10:00 am AND 6:30 pm Wednesday December 16th Afternoon 1:30 & Evening 6:30 PM Kinders Stuart / Tipper Keir / Bycuik / McNabb Thursday December 17th Morning 10:00 & Evening 6:30 AM Kinders McLarty / Stanford / Watkins Goodwin / Leonard / Tennis Have a great night!
