BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY TOMORROW!! See below for more information
This morning each of the classes did something different. Mrs. Decottignies class worked on a new number book. In it they showed different ways to make a number. Mrs. Osadec’s class did a variety of math centres and an “I see…” writing activity. Mrs. Bridles class talked about a bit of both. The afternoon class had gym-sic In your child’s communication bags today were two notes. One is the new calendar for June. The last day of school is the 27th and it is a half day. We are again asking for volunteers! We have a felt artist coming into the classrooms on three different days and she finds that it is best to have volunteers for each classroom. Mrs. Smith will need 5 volunteers for Thursday the 9th Mrs. Yacshyn will need 5 volunteers for Thursday the 9th Mrs Bridle will need 5 volunteers for Friday the 17th Mrs Osadec will need 5 volunteers for Friday the 17th Mrs Decottignies will need 5 volunteers for the morning on Thursday the 9th and 5 more on the afternoon of Monday the 13th. PLEASE EMAIL YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER IF YOU ARE ABLE TO HELP OUT. You will still need to have your police clearance to work in the classroom. On June 7th, over 50 schools and an estimated 8000 students, if not more, will be biking to school to participate in Calgary Bike to School Day. The mission of this event is to promote healthy active lifestyles in youth. Bike to School Day is also a community day, one that brings together members of a community and their interest in biking or simply riding with friends. Also, the project will help to show kids that biking not only can take you places far away pretty quickly, but it is a healthy activity that gets them outside. Reminders: Keep some open time on June 16 for the Kindergarten assemblies. The morning assembly will be at 10:15 and the afternoon assembly at 2:00. Have a good evening! The K Team

Today was Me and a Tree day, we completed our ninth Me and a Tree! We only have one more to do before the end of the school year. I am sure it will be great to look back on them and see how much change we have made in Kindergarten! It is hard to believe that in two days it will be June!
We had a visit from the Calgary Public Library today and they told us about all their summer programs. There are even some contests that we can enter. For more information we can look at the Calgary Public Library website or visit any of the libraries. We continue to bring in things for our calendar and wow have we learned a lot from it. One day someone brought in a bunch of bouncy balls. When we dropped the bag with all of them in it, it didn’t bounce!? So we tried with just a few balls and it bounced so we added in more. Then we got distracted and check to see which ball bounced the highest. Today we had some copper wire because copper is the 29th element in the periodic table of elements and we tried to light a light bulb with it and it WORKED!!!! We love things that will lead us to other questions and things we can try. Today in Kindergarten the morning group had gym-sic. We are learning some songs for our assembly in June. In the afternoon we continued our writing about our field trip. Maybe I will be able to tell you about my writing. We decided that the field trip was fun and that we sure learned a lot. This is the last call for spring pictures! They will be sent off tomorrow. If you did not receive a class picture or a yearbook order form please let your child’s teacher know. Reminders: Keep some open time on June 16 for the Kindergarten assemblies. The morning assembly will be at 10:15 and the afternoon assembly at 2:00. Have a good night! The Kindergarten Team Today in Kindergarten we continued our writing about our field trip. Maybe I will be able to tell you about my writing. We are getting so much better at using our sounds in our writing and now many of us are trying to add in more detail. We have such good memories that we have been able to share things that others had forgotten and even share with the group that did the trip in a different order.
If you did not receive a class picture or a yearbook order form please let your child’s teacher know. Reminders: Friday May 27th is PM Kindergarten Keep some open time on June 16 for the Kindergarten assemblies. The morning assembly will be at 10:15 and the afternoon assembly at 2:00. Have a good evening! The Kindergarten Team Today in Kindergarten the morning group did some writing about out field trip. They had to think about all the things we did and then decided which was their favorite thing at both the Devonian Gardens and Calgary Tower. That was hard thinking but once some of the memories came out the rest of the children found it much easier remembering all the things we did.
In the afternoon we had gym-sic. We had so many days to catch up on for the calendar that we will need to share them over the next few days so that we do not spent the entire class talking about all the cool things people are bringing in for the calendar. In communication bags today some groups received yearbook order form, class pictures and overdue notices from the library. If there was nothing in the bag today check tomorrow and I am sure it will be there. Reminders: Friday May 27th is PM Kindergarten Keep some open time on June 16 for the Kindergarten assemblies. More information to follow. Have a good evening The Kindergarten Team WOW, what a great day!

Today the morning classes got to see a special Celtic musical performance....ask your students what musical instrument our performer played. This afternoon we learned about the letter Xx. It was harder to find words that began with Xx, but we came up with some as well as words that end with or have an x in them. When we did our calendar this afternoon we had 12 seashells brought in...this led to a conversation about hinge joints as there was a clam shell...ask your child if they can remember or give you an example of a hinge joint. There was a field trip notice sent home with the afternoon class, the morning K's will get it tomorrow. It talks about what to pack, arrival and dismissal times, etc... Mrs. Decottignies' students also came home with some beautiful Monet paintings they created. Some of us talked about what we thought we would see while we were downtown and other classes talked about the things they see in Evergreen so they can compare it to downtown. All of the classes will have done similar activities by the time we go on our trip.
A note went home to parents that have volunteered to come with us on our field trip please ask your child for it if they do not give it to you as it is quite important. We hope to make all draws by Friday. Mrs. Yacyshyn’s class has not received their papers yet. Please check your email as it has been sent to you instead. The calendar bags were great again. Some of the ideas that have come in have even been made into centres for everyone to try. Today we found out that we have some real artists in Kindergarten as they drew some great pictures to represent 11. We had a Minion with 11 bananas, a caterpillar with the numerals on him, some golden rocks and one child went on a nature hike to find her items! If you have misplaced your note there is a copy of it in previous blogs. We realize that some of the dates that your children may have are not school days but we will still be talking about the date. Please send your child with their bag on the next day that they have school.
