PM Kindergarten tomorrow
This morning all of the classes had gymsic and then some of the classes learned more letters and the sounds they make when they played Alphabet Bingo. Mrs. Bridle's class had some new LEGO to play with. Some of the children were concerned that it was "girl" lego because it was in a pink container. Mrs. Bridle assured the class that everyone could play with it and it didn't matter what colour the container or the LEGO was. The LEGO centre was our busiest centre today! We also wrote a goodbye letter to Mr. Craig. We are very sad he is leaving us. We thanked him for teaching us about trapezoids! Tomorrow is his last day at Evergreen. Mrs. Bridle sent home book orders today. They are due on Monday, April 8. Today the afternoon classes did their 7th edition of Me and a Tree. We talked about filling in space, making sure that we were not floating in space and had a ground to stand on. When writing our letters it is helpful to sing the ABC song so that we do not forget letters. IF we say the number as we count it can also help. Some of us are writing words but remembering the ones we know is hard so we try to write sentences. This is such a big job but WOW the changes are fantastic. Some things to write down on your calendars! Student led conferences will be on April 21st and 22nd so please watch your e-mail for an invitation from the office to sign up. On Wednesday May 18th all of the kindergarten classes will be going on a full day field trip downtown. All students will arrive at the school for 8:00 attendance and the busses will leave at 9:00 for our day. Each class is required to have five volunteers. If you are interested and available to help out please make sure that you have your police clearance. If you are not sure if you have a police clearance please contact your child's teacher and they can check with the office. Since the field trip is a full day there will be NO classes for kindergarten the following day, Thursday May 19th. Have a great evening :) The K Team

This morning in Kindergarten each class did different activities but we all had visits from Mrs. Nicole, Mr. V. and Mrs. Lana. They all visit our classes weekly but this time they did something with the entire class. One class talked about rhyming words in stories, another counted the drum beats in their names and the third class did a different activity.
In the afternoon Mrs. Niciole, Mr. V. and Mrs. Lana visited again and taught some new centres that use gross motor activities. Mrs. Yacyshyn and Mrs. Decottignies talked about the letter G. We put pictures of a boy planting some seeds and growing a garden in order. Mrs. Smith's class did a journal entry about spring break. They talked about what a good journal entry looks like and what is included in it. Some things to write down on your calendars! In the afternoon we worked on our fairy tale projects. Most of us did a sequencing activity and glued it into our sketch books. Those books are really filling up and I am sure you will love looking through them during student led conferences in April. Mrs. Smith's afternoon class ALMOST caught a leprechaun! That little guy was so sneaky, he got into the trap and then figured out how to get out too. He is not supposed to be able to do that! The home reading page has FINALLY been updated with a new rhyme and a math games page has been added too. Some fun things to do over the break. They can email [email protected] and specify they are from the school council. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Thanks Paul Have a wonderful Spring Break! The Kindergarten Team Today we worked on our stories again. Some of the classes worked on figuring out who the characters are in each of our stories. Did you know that animals can be characters too!
With our calendar we talked about the number 16. The bottom of the numeral 16 is a square. We thought of some shapes that are similar to a square because they also have four sides and four angles maybe I can tell you some of them, they are all quadrilaterals. Can you believe I know that word! Last call for Scholastic! Today the morning group had gym-sic. Some of the classes worked on making puppets for their fairy tale. Other groups learned how to draw the animals in their story. In the afternoon we worked on putting pictures from our story in the right order. First we colored them, them cut them out before we glued them down properly. Our hands were tired! I bet if you asked us what story we are learning abut we would be able to tell you the story without even having a book! A child in Mrs. Decottignies morning class has lost a very important stuffy. It is a brown and grey rabbit. We have looked in the classroom and have not been able to see it. We are wondering if it accidentally was put into the wrong backpack. Would you mind having a look for it. Scholastic orders are due March 14th. One of the morning Tomorrow is the talent show at 10:00. Students from grades 1-4 shared their talent during auditions and are now putting on a big show for the school. You are welcome to join us if you like. Have a good evening The Kindergarten Team This morning Mrs. Decottignies' class acted out the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. Mrs. Osadec's class learned about all of the characters in 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and Mrs. Bridle's class did another activity with their fairy tale, 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'.
In the afternoon, Mrs. Smith's class acted out 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff', Mrs. Decottignies' class acted out 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and Mrs. Yacyshyn's class acted out 'The Three Little Pigs' and then built the pigs houses using different sizes and shapes of blocks. Ask your children to show you the parts that they played in their plays :) We will continue with our exciting new calendar tomorrow. Tomorrow is the number 10. We can get a sticker if we can show what it looks like to Mrs. Decottignies before it is shared with the class at calendar time. 6 students figured out what 9 looked like...great job :) REMINDERS: The school received a note a little while ago from the Evergreen Community Association about the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt: Saturday, March 26th, from 10am till Noon, at the Everwillow Circle Park, 256 Everstone Dr. We will be having the Easter Bunny at the Easter Egg Hunt as well as the Calgary Public Library Book Truck. This morning in Kindergarten we worked more on our Fairy Tales. Some of the groups were given pictures from the story that they needed to put back into the correct order so that they could tell the story. i was a bit of a hard job but we did a fantastic job of it.
We have been talking about the Phoenician numerals. It is a REALLY old way of writing numbers. All of the numbers are made out of straight lines because long ago the numbers would have been chiseled into stone and you can't make round shapes like that. When you look at the numerals they look kind of like the numerals we use today but each one has angles. A number one has one angle, two has two angles and so on. when you are putting two numbers together to add you can just count the number of angles to get the answer! Pretty neat. Tomorrow is the number 9 We can get a sticker if we can show what it looks like to Mrs. Decottignies before it is shared with the class at calendar time. In the afternoon we had gym-sic. You should ask us about the new centers we have set up! Ask your child which one they read and what activity they did to go along with it.
We also worked on puppet shows, looked more closely at angles and planted some grass seed to make a habitat for a bug centre.
