The Kindergarten classes started doing directed drawings today. This is where the students learn how to draw a variety of different objects or things with step by step instructions. It is a great activity not only for to learning to draw but also for listening, following step by step directions and fine motor control. Today some of the classes drew Frankenstein. I bet they might be able to draw another one for you tonight.
We have heard some families are wondering why Kindergarten is the last in the doors in the morning. We have found over the years that it works best if the older children are allowed in first because they are faster at getting their outdoor shoes off and they clear the hallway sooner. When the Kindergarten children were allowed in first they would sit in the middle of the hall to remove footwear and they were not aware of what was going on around then. The older children would come in and trip over them or run into them, which often resulted in the Kindergarten children getting hurt. When they come in last they have the time to get their shoes off safely and head to their classes. There is always a Kindergarten teacher supervising the door and the hall.
